Technically this is not a new yarn for us. It's actually one that we carried several years ago and I've decided to bring it back for your spring and summer projects. Zooey from Juniper Moon Farms is a beautiful blend of linen and cotton in a Sport weight. I was especially excited to bring this yarn back because the colors are even better than they were before.
So why will you love this yarn? Linen is a wonderful fiber. It is incredibly eco-friendly because it is super easy to grow. It is a wonderful fabric to wear because it breathes. It is strong and yet has a wonderful drape. The downside to linen yarn is that it can be rough to knit with if it's on its own. But when you pair linen with cotton, you get the softness of the cotton. And then as you wash your finished garment it will continue to get softer and softer.
When we carried this yarn in the store before, one of our sample knitters made the Dechain top, designed by Leila Raven. This top is a perfect project for this yarn. It is such a beautiful design and with Zooey you get the perfect drape. This top is SO CUTE worn over a dress! It's also a quick knit. The pattern is available in the store and on Ravelry.
You could definitely make a summer Ranunculus with this yarn. This is another quick knit and would be beautiful in Zooey. I've become such a convert to this pattern. I didn't really get all of the hype at first but after making one and loving it, I get it now. A summer version of this pattern would be a great addition to your wardrobe. The pattern is available in the store and on Ravelry.
In our Year of Sweaters class this month, we are making either the Felix cardigan or pullover. I happened to notice that several people took the Felix pullover and made it with short sleeves with Zooey. What a great idea! Again, this is a quick knit and how fun to add a summer version of this great pattern to your closet. The pattern is available in the store and on Ravelry.
If you aren't in a sweater knitting mood, how about something on the opposite end of the knitting spectrum? These sweet Spa Day Facecloths would make wonderful gifts. You'll be able to make multiple face cloths with just one ball of yarn. The pattern is free on Ravelry.
Finally, I think that Zooey would be perfect for a summer poncho. I love the River Ripples poncho by Yumiko Alexander. The stitch pattern is super interesting. I think this will be a fun knit and perfect to wear to an evening concert or outdoor wedding. The pattern is available in the store and on Ravelry.
Let me know what you think of these project ideas!
